My path to ELOKON

Turning my own interests into a career - that's exactly what I always imagined. For someone who has a wide range of hobbies, the path to the perfect job can take a few exciting turns. So after graduating from high school, I first tried things out: I did my first apprenticeship in music production before starting a degree in archaeology. I found my true calling with my current degree in computer science, which I will soon be successfully completing. Since February 2024, I have been working as a working student at ELOKON alongside my studies and for the first time I have the feeling that I have finally arrived.

Fortunately, I found my way to ELOKON through an acquaintance who raved about the pleasant working atmosphere and the exciting products. Today I know what he means, I'm glad to be here and I'm thrilled at how much I've already learned in such a short time. The positive impression has been fully confirmed!

My area of responsibility

It remains exciting - as a working student, my tasks change frequently and I have an insight into a wide variety of work areas. I have already been able to gain a lot of experience, from documentation and machine safety to software development. I'm currently concentrating mainly on hardware development and quality assurance, which gives me a lot of responsibility and shows that my team trusts me and my expertise.

I am currently working on the design of circuit boards for our machines, which have to be both space and cost-saving. To use them, we also need the right software, which I can also develop together with my colleagues, who are always on hand to give me good advice. As a result, my wealth of knowledge in the field of electronics is growing a little every day and my ability to look at and solve problems from different angles has also improved enormously.

What I like most about working at ELOKON

There is always something happening at ELOKON, nothing stands still, everything can and should be constantly developed further - this gives it a fresh start-up vibe. I'm particularly impressed by the incredible expertise of my colleagues and the fact that they always take the time to share it with me and the whole team. We are perfectly attuned to each other, I notice that every day. Even when there's a lot going on, we all work together in a relaxed atmosphere.

I also particularly like my current area of responsibility, which, although it interfaces with my studies, is completely different and much more practical. Hardware development, for example, wasn't even on my radar before, but I enjoy creating and testing designs more than I ever thought possible. It's great that I can try things out here and have the opportunity to use innovative technical equipment.

That's why my dream would be to stay at ELOKON in the long term and to be able to devote myself completely to my work here after my studies. There is always something happening here, and I want to be part of this movement, always learning new things. That's why I'm planning to gain more insights into various technical areas, especially cybersecurity.

My personal highlights

Our meetings in Hamburg are always an exciting experience. Our engineering team from all over the world regularly comes together there. I really enjoy that, especially as I usually work remotely a lot. The personal exchange in the large group always gives me new food for thought for the work in the team and gives everyone an overview of the entire company, so that I also get to know other business areas - such as sales.

I also recently had the opportunity to test one of the new products from our team directly on a forklift truck. The moment when something you've helped to develop works always makes me feel happy.

My way to ELOKON

My journey to ELOKON has been marked by some fascinating detours and professional milestones. Originally from northern Germany, I started my career by studying tourism management, hoping to turn my passion for travel into a profession. Over time, my career path led me to marketing and social media management, before I moved to Chicago nearly five years ago – in the classic way, driven by love. To settle into my new home and acquire new skills, I pursued an associate degree.

Through my various roles, I've learned one key lesson: flexibility is essential. I approach challenges with an open mind, always seeking solution-oriented ways to move forward. I refuse to get stuck in rigid routines, which is reflected in the diversity of my career background.

At a networking event, I met a member of the ELOKON team, who shared insights about the company’s positive work environment and the range of opportunities it offers. Inspired, I decided to apply. At the time, the marketing department was expanding significantly in the USA—an ideal opportunity for me to contribute to the growth of this area and help the company tap into new regions. The industry itself was uncharted territory for me, but that’s exactly what drew me in: I wanted to challenge myself and venture into what is traditionally a male-dominated field.

Now, I’m proud to be working as a German in the USA for a German company, bringing a fresh perspective to the team!

My area

As the Marketing Manager for North America, my role encompasses all aspects of marketing in the region—ranging from trade shows and our website, to SEO, Google Ads, social media, and public relations. With such a diverse array of tasks and projects, I have the opportunity to fully utilize my skills—boredom is never a concern! Working within an international team, my flexibility is an asset, and as a true North German, I can easily connect with the mindset of my German colleagues. This, along with my intercultural experience, has become a valuable advantage in my work.

What I particularly like about working at ELOKON
No two days at ELOKON are the same—I’m constantly involved in a wide range of projects. If I were focused solely on trade fairs all year, it would quickly become monotonous. What I truly value is the international collaboration across different departments. No matter where we are in the world, we maintain close communication and work together seamlessly, whether with sales, HR, or other teams. Despite being a large company, ELOKON has a close-knit atmosphere where everyone knows one another and supports each other. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much influence each individual has here—we make decisions collectively, are always open to new ideas, and everyone is encouraged to contribute and make an impact.

I’m especially excited to see our team grow and our brand presence in the U.S. expand. Not only are we becoming more well-known, but we’re also working more professionally, which aligns with the larger projects we’re advancing. Being a part of this positive growth is a daily source of motivation for me and fills me with immense pride.

My personal highlight at ELOKON

They are probably a highlight for many of us – the team events! At no other company have I experienced employees from different countries coming together like they do at ELOKON. My first visit to the German headquarters was particularly memorable: After we had previously communicated exclusively remotely, my colleagues suddenly stood in front of me in person! They gave me a very warm welcome right away – I really couldn't have imagined a better start.

My Way to ELOKON

After my military service, where I worked as a heavy vehicle instructor, I realized that I wanted to develop myself further and take on new challenges. Electrical engineering seemed like the perfect next step, so I decided to study this field. During this time, I realized that I really enjoyed tinkering with technical solutions. My work in practical electronics development was particularly exciting. I specialized in test circuits and demanding environmental tests for military projects. Here I was able to learn how to develop and implement precise solutions under high pressure - an experience that greatly enhanced my technical skills.

This phase of my career significantly enhanced my skills and expanded my knowledge base  
But as is often the case in life, the market changed and so did my focus. I found my new challenge in technical support - a job that I wasn't sure would suit me at first. But after a short time, I realized how much I enjoyed not only developing technical solutions, but also sharing them directly with our customers and showing them how to use various products safely and efficiently in training sessions. Through the combination of technology and direct problem solving, I discovered a whole new dimension to my work, which is just as fulfilling as pure development.   

A colleague finally drew my attention to ELOKON because he was enthusiastic about the great team and the innovative products, which made me curious. When I got to know the team and was able to take a first look at the exciting projects, I quickly realized that this was the place where I could continuously develop my knowledge and actively contribute to the success of the customers at the same time.

My area

As a Customer Support Manager at ELOKON, my job is to maintain close relationships with our customers and ensure that they get the support they need. What I find particularly exciting is that I not only develop solutions to existing problems but can also proactively identify potential improvements in our customers' systems. My technical knowledge forms the basis for this, as it helps me to understand customers' concerns at a deeper level and provide them with targeted assistance.

What I particularly like about working at ELOKON

I was enthusiastic about ELOKON right from the start: I am firmly convinced that we offer customers the best solutions on the market with our products. There is a lot of innovative spirit in our daily work - there are always new challenges that spur us on to develop even more efficient products. I am happy to support our overriding goal of increasing safety in the workplace!  
Working at ELOKON is also a real personal enrichment for me. Since leaving the military, I now have the opportunity to travel again for work - something I really enjoy and appreciate. It' is very exciting to explore other countries and meet colleagues from all over the world. I've always been fascinated by cultural exchange and learning new languages - as well as English and Spanish, I'm now learning German!

My trip to the headquarters near Hamburg was definitely a particularly impressive experience. The city is beautiful, and I was delighted to finally meet the team from the different regions in person. The direct exchange showed me once again how much we all pull together and what great people are behind the products and projects.
